Meet the Founder

Hello dessert lovers!

My name is Vivian Aguilar and I was born in the US but raised in Lima, Perú. Like every Peruvian child, I love eating alfajores, and can't get enough of these delicious treats.

I was Peruvian raised till the age of 11 and while I was there Christmas was a really magical time of the year. My favorite holiday memory from childhood was baking alfajores with my grandma. On every Christmas day it was a tradition for my family to go over to my grandma’s house and eat dinner together.

After eating a stuffed meal it was a rule at my grandma’s house to always have dessert after dinner! My grandma and I would spend time making some delicious alfajores together. She always chose to bake alfajores. Having been exposed to this delicious dessert, Alfajores became my all-time favorite dessert!

The process for making these was the following: She would make the dough, I would cut the shapes, and then she would put them in the oven. My favorite step was, the last step, decorating and obviously eating them!! Alfajores therefore became my comfort food.

And so when I moved back to New York at the age of 15, I started missing the aroma of alfajores and its delicious taste. Alfajores had been part of my childhood and leaving it behind in my past was not an option. So one day I was craving alfajores and I asked my dad to buy me some. My dad drove to our local stores such as Stop and Shop and Shoprite in New City, NY.

Bad news.

He didn't find any. He had to drive all the way to New Jersey to get alfajores for me. This inspired me to use my love for baking and start a small alfajores business.

In the midst of COVID-19, my dad also started teaching me his way of baking Peruvian Alfajores, a traditional Peruvian dessert, from scratch. My taste buds fell in love with my dad’s recipe.

At some time in the future, I would like to do the same with my children and pass on the Peruvian tradition just like my dad and grandma did with me. Being able to experience different aspects of a culture such as a language, society and most importantly food is significant to me since I've experienced it myself. So by sharing the most delicious Peruvian alfajores it will help me spread my culture to others. And also who doesn't like trying out new desserts? Because I know I do!

Therefore, I am delighted to share my hand-crafted alfajores with you so that you can have a sensation of my sweet childhood memories and most importantly, the uniqueness of a Peruvian cultural dessert.

My mission is to provide everyone with the tastiest and sweetest Peruvian alfajores!
